Grand
Pianos
A grand piano is a piano whose strings are stretched horizontally, parallel
to the floor. The size of these instruments is measured by
the length from the outer edge of the keyboard to the very back of the
lid. The longer the instrument, the bigger the sound.
* Concert Grand
(7'6" to 9'6" in length)
Usually found in concert
halls, theatres, recording studios and auditoriums. Either as a pianist
or an interested listener, one can experience the best tone and volume
from the 'grandest' of pianos.
* Semi-Concert Grand (6'3" to 7'6" in length)
Very popular in teaching studios and
in music programs around the globe in universities and conservatories.
* Medium Grand ( 5'4" to 6'3" in length)
Better tone quality than a small grand.
This size is common in many homes.
*Small Grand ( 5'3" or less in length)
Where space is limited, these smaller
grands provide the aesthetic appeal of a grand piano in any room.
Furniture Styles
The most popular choice of finish for grand pianos is the traditional
satin ebony. They are also available in natural wood finishes such as walnut, mahogany, cherry and various other elegant veneers.
The standard cabinetry of grand pianos is contemporary except for some European style grands which feature curved legs and carved music desks. Steinway & Sons offers both limited edition and unique art case instruments.
We display all these classifications of grand pianos among our various
product lines. To see a listing of the brands we offer, please go to Piano Manufacturers
